Our Mission
We reach, connect and celebrate alumni and friends of the University to build lifelong relationships, and to support the University’s mission.
Our Vision
We are dedicated to excellence through delivering the finest programs, events and communication that keep our alumni and friends mutually connected with the University. We are passionate about engaging our alumni and friends in the life of the University, its students and its mission. As a result, our constituents judge our performance exceptional, and peer institutions seek our advice on how to replicate our success.
Our Core Values
We Value:
- Advocating for our University and its mission.
- Lifelong learning through cultural, educational, recreational and social activities.
- University and UWAA traditions.
- Providing meaningful benefits and opportunities for our alumni association members.
- A climate that fosters understanding of and value for diversity, including our support for UW diversity initiatives.
- Contributing to a positive student experience.
- Our volunteers’ service and leadership, while providing them fun, satisfying and meaningful experiences.
- Fiscal responsibility, and managing the UWAA for the long term.
- Excellence, integrity, leadership, creativity, fun, teamwork, and recognition – both in our staff and volunteers.
- Our staff members, their professional development and personal well-being.
Our Culture
The following is a vision of how we treat each other and how we work and communicate with one another. It is what makes the UWAA a great, creative and fun place to work.
- We are passionate and take pride in the work of our organization and in our individual roles.
- We are invested in and supportive of the success of one another’s events, programs, communication and professional development.
- We have a culture that is committed to positive participation within a supportive environment; we have fun, respect each other and share new ideas.
- We value new ideas. We commit to embracing change as a group and as individuals.
- We value diversity of opinion and perspective.
- We are effective communicators, which includes being good listeners and aware of one another’s work styles. We listen to what our colleagues, constituents and partners are telling us, and commit to responding appropriately.
- We commit to a group ordered process. New initiatives, policies and procedures are prepared by appropriate staff members and shared with other staff for their input and comments. When appropriate they are also presented to and discussed by the UWAA Board committees and other engaged volunteers.
- Changes are reviewed in relationship to our strategic planning process. Changes take into account our visions, our business plan and our annual operating budgets. We focus on money and staff time in deciding what and when things change.
- We value teamwork and use it as much as possible. We believe that a greater end result is possible if we work together and draw on our collective wisdom rather than if we rely solely on our individual talents.
- All of us regularly recognize and thank each other for jobs well done.
